Welcome

A year ago, we had the honour of receiving our second specialism, Languages, and in celebration we launched our new Digital Language Lab. That was the opening for a very busy but enjoyable collaboration between Science and Languages. Sign Language, Spanish, Human Biology and Mediterranean cooking are just a small sample of the evening classes we have provided so far.

Our students experienced the diverse culture of India when we celebrated India Day and learnt how to design and produce a mobile phone for the future in our Engineering Day. Math’s challenges, visits to Gaydon and Science Week were interspersed with a taste of Olde England on St George’s Day in April.

Our girls have enjoyed welcoming students from Bilton, Avon Valley and Harris for a range of activities: from designing and producing a poster to promote Rugby for the Olympics to seeing how science works at RHS

We were overwhelmed by the number of entries for our eco-classroom competition to celebrate Science Week. Our judges were impressed with the thoughtfulness of the design briefs and the very high standard of construction. This brings us to our ventures for the last few weeks of term. A visit to Burton Dassett for Year 8, a celebration of Bastille Day and the grand  finale...our Science Fair, a joint venture with Ashlawn School, in July.

This promises to be a fantastic day out. Fun workshops will be a highlight for the whole family: “Life as a Cell” dome, CSI Forensics, interactive displays (robots, rockets and animals) - and University and Further Education advice for those wishing to pursue a career in the sciences.  Rugby Radio will be on hand all day to keep the party atmosphere going. You will be seeing further details in the next few weeks

Finally, some great news. In recognition of our links with China and the community work we do in Languages, Rugby High School has been awarded Warwickshire’s “International School of the Year 2010”.  To achieve this award, schools also need to demonstrate that they are engaged with international issues and have established sustainable links with schools in other nations

A lovely end to the year…………….
