Science Celebration Party July 2008 PDF Print E-mail

In July we held our very own Science Celebration Party as a celebration of our Science Specialist Status. It was a chance to look back and reflect upon how much fun we have, and hope to continue having, being a Specialist Science Status school. Sessions were held all over the school site. It was a lovely day and all who took part really enjoyed it. Here are some of the things we got up to.

Cool Science Show

Science and Maths with the WOW bits left in!

Starchaser Rockets

Design, building and then flying rockets in 45 minutes flat.

Corner Exotics

A collection of exotic animals (reptiles, amphibians etc) were let loose. Very ‘hands-on’ with an educational and entertaining talk about the environments the animals live in and how adaptation and evolution have shaped the way they look and feel.

Thinktank Dome

Using state of the art digital technology and an inflatable dome we had two different experiences.

‘A journey into the Cell’ for our girls. They were transported right into the centre of a cell to be shown structures and roles, shown the differences between animal and plant cells.

Space Dome for our partner primaries. The pupils were taken on a journey through the solar system, learning about planets, the moon and the constellations visible from earth.

100 Physics in an Hour!

Fast moving, non stop physics experiment. A race to do the impossible – 100 experiments in an hour using everyday objects. Everything from a disappearing test tube to a balloon guitar!

The Real Science of the Circus

Juggling and balancing tricks were used together with lots of volunteer help to show how forces work and combine when real circus performers show off their skills.
