Language and culture lessons run by students on RHS India Day

On the 7th of October, Year 8 and 9 students led language and culture lessons in Punjabi, Gujarati and Bengali in four different workshops for all year 8 students and some teachers/guests at Rugby High School. This is what they said about their experience:

On India day we volunteered to teach one of our native languages to our other students. It was interesting to experience being a language teacher. We came across some difficulties when deciding how to plan the lesson but we had the help of a languages teacher all the time and we really enjoyed preparing our PowerPoint and worksheets with role-plays. We also had a great time and enjoyed being able to teach our classmates our language.

During our lesson, we asked few students to do the role-play in front of the whole class. Surprisingly it went very well! They pronounced the words to their best ability and even added in some emotions! We were both very pleased that our class had gone as well as it could have!

The experience was fun and interesting and it was good teaching people of the same age and it was better doing it with my friends, it seemed like the pupils enjoyed what was being taught and everybody got involved which made it that little bit easier. I think it boosted our confidence speaking to people in assembly and the separate classes we would definitely do this again, it was great :).

Thank you to all year 8 and 9 students who took part in the language and culture lessons. Your contributions were FANTASTIC!
