The shriek ring of the bell at a quarter to nine,
Children hurriedly forming a line,
Coats on pegs, bags unpacked, there’s no time to waste,
Teachers cry “ Hurry children, a little more haste!”

Register is called, then to the school hall we are led,
To attentively listen to our talk from the head,
Another ring of the bell, time for lessons to start,
Everybody’s favourite, its time for art!

Collages, paintings, we love to create,
Then hurry to the science lab, we must not be late,
Test tubes, bunsen burners and the petri dish,
Hope the experiment works, lets make a wish.

Now the thinking really starts as English is next,
Essay writing, grammar, comprehension- you must read the text,
The maths challenge follows, we really must try,
To understand fractions, decimals, pythagoras and pi.

“Bonjour les enfants” Mademoiselle Thomas booms,
As the army of children enter her room,
In German, Herr Green repeats “ Eins, zwei, drei,”
“ Please children,” he shouts, “ You really must try.”

Back in time for history we next are told,
Of the Battle of Hastings and the fate of Harold,
Our geography teacher then eagerly awaits,
To educate us on countries, continents and the American States.

Instruments out, choir ready, in music we are poised,
To joyously deliver our thunderous noise,
Finally, PE, at the end of the day,
Netball, hockey, football, we are ready to play.

The bell rings again at a quarter to four,
A rush of children towards the front door,
Our day is over, now much wiser we are,
All the things we have learned will help us go far.
