BACK TO “LO STIVALE D' EUROPA” (Italia!)

I always thought of England as the country with huge green spaces, semi - detached houses, cheese cake and English puddings.

While I was travelling from Gatwick Airport to Rugby, on the morning of 4 October 2010, all appeared to me as I had imagined, perhaps even more beautiful and interesting.

Curiosity, joy, trepidation was mixed with a little concern for knowing that I had to speak English most of the time in England.

To welcome me at the station in Coventry was Miss Martinez, my mentor, who has been great support during my time at Rugby School.

Rugby High School was not like I expected. I thought I was going to find a school similar to the ones I have experience in Italy but there were so many differences! For instance, schools in Italy do not have a canteen or the beautiful green fields that I saw in this school.

Unfortunately my level of English at the beginning did not allow me to relate with students as much as I would have loved to. I still feel sorry about that.  Nevertheless, I am excited now to be able to communicate with all students and to hear them saying: "CIAO! or Buongiorno" instead of "Hello! or Good Morning" to me in the corridors. I have had the opportunity of creating displays about Italian Language and Mediterranean food, teaching Italian for Adults and students, run Italian assemblies in Primary Schools and teach some Spanish lessons as well. I have really enjoyed all.

I am leaving for Italy this week and I hope that my presence at RHS has been able to interest you all in my culture and language.

I would like to thank all staff at Rugby High School and especially the Languages Department teachers for the support and kindness they have all shown me.

Vi aspetto in Italia!
