We believe that learning should be enjoyable. It is this belief, coupled with the skill and dedication of our staff and the enthusiasm and commitment of our students, that lies at the root of our success. Rugby High School (RHS) is one of the country’s 164 grammar schools catering for academically able girls aged 11-18. RHS was granted academy status on 1st April 2011. We are an inclusive school community whose members come from a wide variety of social and cultural backgrounds. The school has developed a special interest in science and languages provision and in promoting thinking skills. Much of our partnership work with other schools has been in these areas. RHS was judged to be an outstanding school when it was inspected in February 2006 and also in November 2008. Our students’ academic achievements are recorded in the results section of this website and can be seen in the performance tables published by the DfE. However, what matters most to us is not raw results or league tables but that each student does as well as she can, that she is happy, has a wide variety of interests, an enthusiasm for life and a willingness to use her abilities for the good of others. We encourage our students to discover new talents as well as to explore their existing strengths, to set themselves challenging targets and to be ambitious both for themselves and for others. If you are a student at RHS you might learn a new physical skill such as canoeing, horse riding or sailing; learn a new language and use it whilst abroad to buy food in a local market; or learn how to raise money for charity or even run your own business. Wherever your interests lie, you are sure to find something in our extensive programme of extra-curricular activities that will appeal to you. Rugby High School was founded at the beginning of the twentieth century to provide an academic education for the young women of Rugby. Since its foundation the school has survived a change of name and several changes of location, as well as the phasing out of its primary provision. Although its founders would recognise neither the school’s name nor its present location, they certainly would recognise the school’s ethos which has remained constant and which is encapsulated by the school motto 'Ascensiones in corde suo disposuit' (She has set heights in her heart). We hope that all our students will do exactly that and that in attaining their personal goals they will play their part in making the world a better place in which to live. Charlotte Marten
