Author Visit by Gillian Cross On Wednesday 16th February 2011, celebrated author of the popular “Demon Headmaster” series visited our school. Gillian Cross who previously lived in Warwickshire and has strong links with our school gave two sessions on how she was inspired to write the Demon Headmaster series and her new novel, “Where I belong” which has been shortlisted for The Warwickshire secondary Schools Reading Award and is on the long list for Carnegie. Girls were inspired by her ideas and were queuing up in the library to buy her books and get them signed by the author. In the afternoon, Gillian ran a Creative Writing Workshop in which she worked with the girls to create a story based on characters chosen by the girls. The trickiest part seemed to be about how to write the blurb once they had decided on the storyline. I am sure we all gained tremendously from Gillian’s expertise and are looking forward to hear all about her impending visit to Dubai and Karachi. Maybe there will be a sequel to “Where I Belong”….. Who knows! Finally, I would like to say a very special Thank You to Gillian for coming to our school and to my Year 12 Librarians for making Gillian’s visit such a success, and to Natasha for the delicious Gillian Cross cakes. Thank you to all students, parents and staff for supporting the event Mrs Chaudhry Librarian
