Welcome to the Religious Studies Department. In their Religious Education lessons students will develop an awareness of the spiritual and moral dimensions of life-experiences and the questions and issues arising from these. They will follow the Warwickshire Agreed Syllabus, studying several world religions and other value systems. Students will be encouraged to develop a depth of understanding and consider what it might mean to be committed to a religious tradition. They will have the opportunity to reflect upon and respond to ultimate questions. All girls up to the age of 16 attend the equivalent of one Religious Education lesson a week. The subject is also offered at GCSE level for Years 10 and 11 and for AS and A2 levels. The majority of these lessons take place in the Religious Education room which is equipped with its own audio-visual and other resources. In our lessons, we reflect the fact that the religious traditions in Britain are in the main Christian, whilst taking account of the teaching and practices of the other principal religions represented in Britain. Use is made of artefacts, drama, art work, audio-visual material, visits, debates, discussions and visiting speakers to stimulate thinking and understanding. Note: parents have the right to withdraw their daughter from Religious Studies and collective worship. Any girl so withdrawn will do private study in the school library.
