Welcome to the Psychology Department
Psychology is a very popular subject at RHS, with currently approximately two thirds of the sixth-form taking this subject, as well as a sizeable number of boys from Lawrence Sheriff School, who come to RHS for Psychology.
Psychology is defined as “The Science of Mind and Behaviour”, which means we look at human behaviour and try to understand what causes it, and whether we can predict behaviour.
Psychology is taught and assessed as a science, but a social science (rather than a life science). This means we benefit from adopting a strong scientific basis for our work, but also study from a more social point of view.
In Year 12 you will study some very practical and immediately relevant topics such as Memory, Obedience, Prejudice and some psychological disorders and their treatments. You will also become an expert in Research Methods by learning about data analysis and handling etc.
In Year 13 we take a wider view and study topics like Criminology, Mental Illness, and even some Philosophy of Science.
Our students will testify that this is a modern and fascinating subject, with direct relevance to life, taught in a stimulating way. We demand very high standards from you, in terms of your level of commitment and effort. In return, we work tirelessly to get the very best results for you.
