Ni hao!! On the 28th and 29th of January 2009, as part of our Language Specialist status, we celebrated Chinese New Year. Special assemblies about Chinese Culture and Traditions for New Year were held and students had a celebratory registration with presents and a Chinese Language and culture quiz! During lunchtime staff and students enjoyed a delicious Chinese meal. Activities on offer included Tai Chi, a Chinese Calligraphy workshop and a Chinese-style Origami workshop Chinese Decorations Around The School
Chinese assemblies In our Chinese assemblies (which were based on culture and traditions for the New Year) students had the opportunity to watch some amazing Dragon Dance performances and learned more about popular food, celebrations and customs popular for Chinese New Year. We ended the assemblies singing a famous Chinese New Year song, “The Gonxi Song”, to wish everybody at RHS good luck for the Year of the Ox! Tai Chi Tai Chi attracted many students who wanted to learn more about this ancient art.
Chinese calligraphy and Origami workshops The workshops were full of students very eager to learn the techniques of Chinese calligraphy. We would like to say a special thank you to all the students who helped towards the success of these two workshops. At the Chinese origami workshop students learned how to do a penguin and a dog! Our board to write New Year wishes to friends
