A group of year 9 students have just finished a 11 weeks long Chinese e-learning course called FLAGS Chinese (Foreign Languages Awareness for Schools in Chinese), with the work of Birmingham University, Links into Languages and Rugby High School. The Chinese e-learning course was an enjoyable experience for all of us. A group of year 9’s went to a Monday lunch time Chinese course and this took place in the new language lab. We learnt about the Chinese language and culture and we really had a great time! University students studying a degree in Chinese at the University of Birmingham taught us through nine online lessons (plus one session to know them in person and a final session with plenty of games, awards and Chinese presents!). During our online sessions we kept in touch with the tutors using a chat room online, which was very helpful. Overall FLAGS Chinese was a great experience for us. It gave us a basic introduction to Chinese language and culture and it has motivated us to learn more Chinese in the future! By Jessy Patel and “Chinese FLAGS” students
