BB in GCSE Science/Additional Science

or

BBB in Separate Sciences

plus

B in GCSE Mathematics

You will also require a lab coat.

 

CHEMISTRY AS (Advanced Subsidiary) (Board: OCR)

The qualification comprises of three modules:

 

Module 1 – Atoms, Bonds and Groups (30% of AS)

Atoms; moles and equations; acids; redox; electron structure; bonding and structure; periodicity; group 2 and group 7.

Module 2 – Chains, Energy and Resources (50% of AS)

Basic concepts; alkanes; alkenes; alcohols; halogenoalkanes; modern analytical techniques; enthalpy changes; rates and equilibrium; chemistry of air; green chemistry.

Module 3 – Practical Skills in Chemistry (20% of AS)

Centre assessed coursework; this unit assesses practical and investigative skills developed within contexts encountered during AS Chemistry.

Students will carry out three tasks: a qualitative task; a quantitative task and an evaluative task.

The AS course is worth 50% of the overall A Level in Chemistry. Students must pass AS Chemistry to progress to A2 Chemistry.

 

 

CHEMISTRY A2 (Board: OCR)

This consists of three additional modules:

 

Module 4 – Rings, Polymers and Analysis (30% of A Level)

This covers further work on organic compounds and builds further on the analytical techniques used in Organic Chemistry

Module 5 – Equilibrium, Energetics & Elements (50% of A Level)

This covers further work on energy changes, rates and equilibrium and introduces pH and the transition elements.

Module 6 -Practical Skills in Chemistry 2 (20% of A2 Level)

Centre assessed coursework; this unit assesses practical and investigative skills developed within contexts encountered during A level Chemistry.

Students will carry out three tasks: a qualitative task; a quantitative task and an evaluative task.

The A2 course is worth 50% of the overall A Level in Chemistry
