Lee Raven, an illiterate Boy Thief, has stolen something he really didn’t mean to. Now he is on the run from the police and facing a perilous trip through the great city of London, and not always at ground level either. If he pulls this scam off, he will have prevented the most dangerous ending for everyone. When Lee steals the Book of Nebo, trouble is bound to follow. This historic book contains every story and legend known to man and even talks and reads aloud the stories. When a man is found murdered in a park under suspicious circumstances, people are bound to come up with various gossips about why he was murdered. But this is not just any man. This man was the last owner of the Book of Nebo. Before long, Lee has stolen the book from a book collector, with whom the deceased had left the book. Blissfully unaware about the Book’s bloody history, Lee is already being chased by the police, who have been told that Lee has the book. Lee is forced to travel underground in the sewers, until it is safe to come out. But the police are not the only ones chasing Lee. Janki, the assistant of the collector is also on his case, determined to return the book to its rightful owner. Together, Janki and Lee unearth the horrific past of this book and prevent it from falling in the wrong hands, which could be catastrophic for the human race. I really enjoyed this book because it was an epic, gripping novel, jam-packed with action, fun and plain stupidity. I liked the way in which the story was told, jumping from one characters point of view to another’s, so you got a varied opinion and different personalities. I also felt that you could empathise with the different characters, because each of them had very valid, sensible reasons for taking a particular action and their particular style. I could especially relate to Janki in the story because many of the actions she took and her way of thinking were very similar to what I myself would have done. She also had to leave all of her comforts to chase someone who hadn’t the faintest idea about what she was talking about most of the time. This experience is one I am sure many have experienced, leaving your comforts to do something absurd and is a very easy concept to understand. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for an action-packed tale, full of many other genres, such as fantasy, mystery and crime. Jaisha Ahmed Year 8 Rugby High School
