After an uneventful yet traffic free journey down we all arrived at Brenscombe Outdoor Centre in the evening light with dinner waiting for us, nothing could have been a better start to our trip! Especially for Mr Chell. The news that our accommodation was called the ‘Chicken Sheds’ travelled quick and was not received well at first, however the outside showers were at least nice and hot!
The next day we awoke to beautiful sunshine and a magical day on the Dorset coastline, taking in some of the best coastal geography in the world. We did not take our sunglasses off all day, it was hard going. There were two highlights of the day, the first being a late afternoon sit in the sun on a cliff top simply soaking up the atmosphere after a days learning. The second was summed up in the following quote, “I thought physical geography was boring, I’m lovin’ it now”. Thank you that girl!
The second and final day saw the group learning about river flood defences in the morning. I really did not understand the reluctance of the group to clamber into the muddy, overgrown, smelly, slimy and generally uninviting river! During the afternoon the students worked in groups to gather data for their presentations on Swanage urban environment in the evening. They were fantastic, given with such confidence and humour. Well done girls.
We arrived home tired and sick of being stuck in traffic for way too long, but all with great memories that will hopefully spring back in the exam in summer!
Huge thanks to the students for making it great, Mr Buck and Mr Chell for teaching and driving. Special thank you to Rosanna for keeping me sane during the organisation.
